Yeah, i've done it and it's the best feeling to build all your stuff by yourself, there's no such emotion that could top it.

I've had

Ryzen 5 3600x

GTX 1660 Super

16 GB RAM (2x8) up to 3000 Mhz.

B450m Plus (no WIFI, bought it separatedly)

All of this (up to 60 FPS in high quality in 99% of games in 1080p).

I'm unsure if this counts but I purchase my computers from CyberPowerPC which allows you to choose everything that goes into your computer. Essentially it's building your computer by having the professionals actually put in the parts ;) My current computer though is 5 years old and super dated. It's using a 1060, 32g Ram with 2 sticks of 16g of ram and 2 sticks of slightly different 16 gigs of ram due to them no longer selling the sticks I had prior which causes some complications from time to time. (I installed the second batch of ram), and a Basic i7 Processor which I forgot the stats too.

This wasn't my complete build, to begin with however overtime when I was able to afford the hardware parts I built it bit by bit in the year span of 2019 and 2020. Started with case and AIO in mid-2019. The story started in September of 2019 when I moved to and from houses, before my shipping container arrived I order 1660TI (Came into the market) to replace my old GTX 680 and also ordered corsair fans with lighting node, controller commander pro sets plus strip lights, well the works you should say to able to have cool RGB effects. Once shipment arrived I rebuilt my system with older parts from my other rig into my new case, and install my first time AIO. Still using my old i7-3930K with my Asus P9X79 deluxe board that only supports DDR3. While rebuilding my half new rig I also had to order a new power supply of 850 watts since my other power supply got damaged while in the shipment (Spent all day with that damn troubleshooting).

It's now October/November of 2020 just after my birthday, My rig starting to play up and acting weird where it's not booting and at times not even overclocking right, near the end of October the boards USB 3.0 sockets failed and means that I can't use them. When they failed it made the life of usage harder since I do use far too many connections. That's when my older gear had to be replaced, it had its life of ten years usage and with it getting worse and not better I had to look into a new motherboard, which also means all-new CPU and memory. At the time it's a bad time for me with my funds and since I'm a webmaster/freelancing I had web server renewable coming up. It ended up that I got a new motherboard, CPU and memory at the beginning of November. It was a choice to get something will good that is far better than my older CPU and to able to last longer for the future to come with games and also new GPUs. Had to spend big to get the best.

Now it's the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, no idea when this will be public as I'm typing this but as months go on, I'm liking my new rig with just about new parts. Getting far more FPS in gaming and having extra cores and threads helps so badly. Mainly built to do what I love doing, that;'s flight simulators (LIke P3D) and yes expecting you guys saying that you need a 3080 or higher to get the best out of it since flights sims eat so much of your resources, I say this that at the time of getting my GPU it's down to what money that I had and can afford. However that 1660TI is overclocked and boy, It does kick a punch at 1440P on high settings. It's a good card for the price.

Hopefully, this build will last me for the next 5 years and not like the other build that lasted me ten years and shocked so many people that I can stream and game on high and fly with that old system with that 680.

So that's the story background and hopefully, this will help others on there builds, all I wish for now that I had an RTX 3000 series, and then this would be a great system. So donations? jokes, lol.

Thanks, enjoy the images

The last time I built my own was when I was in middle school. To be quite frank it was my favorite PC ever and broke down when I turned about 13. I'm currently 30 years old and haven't had a desktop since. Which is a shame and I really want to get one at some point.

My dream would be to make one at a Microcenter. I hear there only in the Western United States though. Microcenters are really the best place for it as they have ever part you could ever dream of. If you don't know what it is or heard of it, you basically can build the computer there. It's a part store for everything possible though they sell PCs already built as well.

It's always best to build your own. That way, you can control the parts that are going into it. With prebuilt machines, they often include very sketchy power supplies and motherboards.

Depends on the goal. Gaming? You save a ton.

Basic home/office computing? Usually it's a wash unless you can reuse some components, get a free Windows key, etc.

The trick is that companies that make prebuilts, even the better ones that have come out in the last few years, ask for huge margins on their products. By only buying the components (which due to retail competition have much lower margins) you avoid just handing an extra $400 to IBuyPower or Dell.

Not PC game, but I tried to create some games in unity and unreal engine for mobile devices. It was fun, because I already have some knowledge regarding 3D animations in blender, which made it easy for me.

I had created a similar game to Angry birds. But I never released it, because there were many flaws in the game.

I haven't built a custom PC for gaming, but I have been upgrading the one I am using, to be able to better handle running games effectively. Didn't realize before hand what I needed for certain games, till I tried playing them on full recommended settings.

Cool, what have you upgraded then, also would you consider having a option to build your own if you had help on how to build.

Doubled and a half my working ram, replaced my hard drive with more working space. Working on the CPU next, as that appears to be the next major concern on things operating faster. My graphics card I don't think I need to update, as it seems to be handling the graphics pretty good with most things.

Well, if you on Intel then you would have to get full new motherboard LOL

Excluding buying a whole new motherboard, you can still upgrade hardware up to a certain point. There are recommendation lists for most motherboards, and lists that mention the best hardware that is compatible. If I end up needing to upgrade my motherboard, I might as well get a brand new computer. :D

I've built a few PCs over the years, but my current one is a prebuilt, and it's in desperate need of replacement, so I'll be building a new one once I can get the funds together to do so.  I always prefer building to buying, just helps you know what you've got and what you're getting into.  Also really helps to understand your machine, what its' parts are, how they function, compatibility, etc.  Rather than just a box with things in it, it's a whole machine with components you know and, ideally, understand.

I have a PC which is windows 11, that's the one I use in gaming and also accessing online with. I have a PS4 console which is mainly for gaming than my PC.

I have purchased the computer directly from the seller. I have not built it myself. But I have upgraded the graphics card to Nvidia Quadro 1800 graphics card.

For a hard core gamer, I think it is better to build the PC yourself. As you can have your specifications according to your requirements. 😊

I bought piece by piece, but asked a shop to build for me. Don't really have the knowledge to do it by myself at home, and it's not a big deal for me to ask a proffesional to do so.

It's always hard to do something that you have not done before but as time goes on you and anyone can learn and become professional :P

I like fixing and building systems, I can say that old systems back 20 years ago are far more harder then they are now LOL I remember the very first time while building a PC that I was so stuck at doing something that I had to call in a specialist for help and he came and did what he had to so and helped me and then left with $50 in his hands Xd
